About A Gift of Time Georgetown
A Gift of Time is a Georgetown-based nonprofit created to support families living with mild to moderate dementia—with compassion, dignity, and a deep understanding of what families are carrying
Walking Alongside Family Care Partners
Founded in 2015, A Gift of Time was created with a simple belief: no family care partner should have to navigate the dementia journey alone.
When our programs launched in 2022, we focused on meeting care partners where they are—often overwhelmed, exhausted, uncertain, and in search of support. We understand that caring for someone living with dementia can be both deeply meaningful and incredibly challenging. That's why everything we do is designed to support not only the individual living with dementia, but also the family members who care for them.
Our cornerstone service is free weekly respite care, providing family care partners with a few uninterrupted hours to rest, attend appointments, run errands, or simply take time for themselves while their loved one enjoys meaningful activities, music, social connection, and a shared meal in a safe, dementia-friendly environment.
Beyond respite care, we offer caregiver support groups, dementia education, Memory Café gatherings, early-stage programs, and dementia-friendly community experiences. Every program is shaped by the real needs of local families and strengthened by the generosity of volunteers, musicians, churches, community partners, and friends who share our commitment to supporting care partners.
At A Gift of Time, there is no right way to be a caregiver, and you don't need to have all the answers. Whether you're just beginning to ask questions, navigating a new diagnosis, or looking for ongoing support, we are here to walk alongside you every step of the way.
Our Mission

Our Vision

Our Team
STAFF
Hello from Becky Folta-May, Executive Director
My journey in dementia care began as a C.N.A. at The Wesleyan in Georgetown and led to a career rooted in senior care. I hold a degree in Long-Term Health Care Administration and am a Licensed Nursing Facility Administrator (LNFA), Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP), Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR), and Certified Risk Manager (CRM).
I spent many years in Dallas working in Human Resources and Risk Management for large, faith-based senior living communities before returning to Georgetown in 2007 to help open a new continuing care retirement community (CCRC).
Since joining A Gift of Time in 2022, I’ve focused on shaping programs that reflect the real needs of families navigating memory loss. I am privileged to work alongside two caring, competent, and talented individuals, dedicated and person-centered volunteers, and a committed board of directors. Together, we support individuals living with dementia—and the care partners who walk alongside them—through compassionate, community-based care.
Jeanette Workman, Activities Coordinator
Jeanette began her journey with A Gift of Time as a dedicated volunteer and officially joined the team in September 2024. Since then, she has brought fresh energy to our Respite Program, enriching it with her creativity and thoughtful activities. Jeanette lives in Georgetown with her husband and is the proud mother of two adult daughters.
Carolina Umana, Community Outreach and Education Coordinator
Carolina joined our team in March 2025. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Health Service Administration and is bilingual, which helps us connect with the Hispanic community. Carolina also brings valuable personal insight as a daughter of someone with dementia. She lives in Georgetown with her husband and their five children.
2026 BOARD OF DIRECTORS
A Gift of Time’s Board of Directors are members from Georgetown, TX, and surrounding communities. The Board of Director members believe strongly in the mission of A Gift of Time because they were once caregivers of a loved one who lived with dementia. Their experience heightens the need for an adult day program—a program they wished they had as an option to help them care for their loved ones and to keep them home longer.
Our dynamic Board members have accepted the challenge of making a lasting impact on the community. They understand that time and effort are important elements of the organization’s success. Our goal is to recruit additional individuals who are willing to work hard, create change, and drive results for our organization

Our Logo Tells Our Story
A Gift of Time’s Logo Tells Our Story and Defines Our Mission
Logos are intended to become an integral part of a company’s brand identity, providing immediate recognition of their product, service, or mission. We hope you have become familiar with our logo as we continue to expand our influence and impact within the Georgetown community.
Our logo was designed with input from the members of the founding Board of Directors and community residents. It is designed to work hard 24/7 as a constant reminder to the community and to ourselves of our commitment to those with mild to moderate memory loss and their caregivers.
The flower petals are red poppies that connect the organization’s founding to Georgetown.
The petals are in the shape of a heart to represent love.
The green leaves represent hands holding up Georgetown caregivers and our participants (those with memory loss). For some, it also represents faith, or hands lifting up to the Lord.
The different shades of green in the leaves represent the diversity in those we serve, and in those of us who serve.
The green stem is connected to the ground to represent a solid foundation, planted and nourished on Georgetown soil.
Our name is a common statement among caregivers - they say adult day centers and respite care programs are truly “a gift of time”, providing them the opportunity to care for themselves, both physically and emotionally.
Our name also represents an opportunity for participants (those with mild to moderate memory loss) to be with their peers in a different type of setting, offering mental stimulation, imagination, camaraderie, and a diversion from their daily routine.
Josie Zamora, A Gift of Time’s Founder, had the honor of naming the organization. She shares, “I did a lot of research to decide on the name. I was inspired by stories of caregivers needing help caring for their loved ones. The name also easily translates in Spanish as "Un Regalo de Tiempo." This comes from my roots of being Mexican American and my determination to make all feel welcomed.”
Our History
The name "A Gift of Time" was chosen because it captures the heart of what we offer: meaningful time for individuals living with dementia and for the loved ones who care for them.
It reflects two powerful ideas:
For Care Partners: Time is the most precious gift for someone providing care. Our respite program provides them with time to rest, recharge, or attend to other responsibilities—without worry—knowing their loved one is safe, engaged, and well cared for.
For Those Living with Dementia: Our program offers a stimulating and joyful experience that honors each person’s abilities and dignity. Every day we offer is a gift filled with connection, creativity, and purpose.
The name is both simple and profound, reminding us that in the face of memory loss and the challenges of caregiving, time together and time apart can both be healing and meaningful.
In 2011, the Georgetown Aging Initiative explored areas of need for the growing senior population in Georgetown, TX. One of the needs identified by seniors was an “affordable adult day center.”
The Georgetown City Council created the Commission on Aging Board to address the findings of the survey. The Commission on Aging Board was led by a diverse community of residents that included medical professionals, business people, and experts in aging. The Board evaluated existing senior services, including new resources that were developed since the time the survey was conducted. The group identified that most of the needs found in the survey were being addressed, except for the adult day center.
A vision for Georgetown began to take shape.
In 2016, that vision took on more of a reality when Josephine Zamora, a former member of the Commission on Aging Board, an RN, and an Adult Clinical Nurse Specialist, began the research to establish a licensed adult day center. With the increasing number of dementia diagnoses in an aging population, Mrs. Zamora presented the idea to Mr. Steve Howard, a SCORE mentor. Mr. Howard was a key asset in assisting Mrs. Zamora to establish the adult day program as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. With former Georgetown Mayor Leo Wood, the Men's Steak Fry Group was the first group to fund the idea with an initial $3,000 donation, which covered the cost of applying for 501(c)(3) status to launch A Gift of Time. The plan to open an adult day program was presented to the community residents and leaders. True to the organization’s commitment to the community, the Board of Directors was made up of local residents.
In 2017, more funds were donated from organizations like The Georgetown Health Foundation, the Georgetown City Council, Communities Foundation of Texas, First Presbyterian Church, and St. Helen’s Catholic Church. Through these generous donations, A Gift of Time was able to continue the planning to open Georgetown’s first licensed adult day program specializing in memory loss.
Since that time, A Gift of Time has been creating programs, support groups, and an education series. It is engaging in long-term planning and fundraising for its goal of launching a licensed adult day dementia program.
