This webinar will explain how staging a person’s cognitive condition can provide a clearer understanding of what is happening now, what may come next, and which supports are most helpful at each point along the journey. We will review how clinicians determine stage by considering changes in cognition, daily function, behavior, and safety, while also connecting clinical findings to the underlying biological disease process. The presentation will explore what individuals and families may experience from the earliest signs through mild, moderate, and severe dementia, emphasizing that progression is shaped by coexisting brain conditions, general health, environment, and the unique circumstances of each person. Participants will learn how staging can guide anticipatory care, reduce stigma, address behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia, identify when additional support is needed, and promote more productive conversations with primary care clinicians.
